What is HDC-AC?
A high-voltage AC power supply for ionizers employing fusion of digital and analog
HDC stands for "Hybrid Digital Control" and AC is an abbreviation for "Alternating Current." This technology was developed independently by Shishido Electrostatic, and is a completely new high-voltage AC power supply (patented). The unit is compact and lightweight, while offering high power. This enables more advanced static elimination.
Advantages of ionizers equipped with HDC-AC
Striving for an ion balance of ±0V
Ion balance is one measure of static elimination performance. It can be regarded as a rough numeric indicator of the percentages of positive (+) and negative (-) ions produced by an ionizer, and is indicated as a potential difference (V). The closer the value is to ±0 V, the better the ion balance of the ionizer.
Extremely sensitive devices with low withstand voltage, such as semiconductors and IC chips, are exposed to the risk of destruction or malfunction even with a comparatively small potential difference. For example, if the withstand voltage of a certain electronic device is 5 V, an ionizer with an ion balance of ±5 V or more will not eliminate static, and in fact will cause static charging, and risk causing trouble with the electronic device. Therefore, ionizers with a low ion balance are essential if the object for static elimination is extremely sensitive.

Long-term stability of static elimination performance
The static elimination performance of an ionizer is generally evaluated based on the combination of static elimination speed and ion balance. Basically, static elimination performance declines little by little due to wear and fouling of the emitter needle as usage time increases. An ionizer equipped with HDC-AC exhibits less change in characteristics and less wear of the emitter needle, even in response to emitter needle fouling, compared to other high-voltage generation systems. This is due to HDC-AC's distinctive high-voltage generation technology, and thus it is possible to maintain stable static elimination performance over the long term.

Maintenance-free over the long term
Ionizers require cleaning and maintenance, and the emitter needle must be cleaned at a cleaning interval ranging from a few weeks to a few months. In contrast, ionizers equipped with HDC-AC exhibit less change in characteristics even in response to emitter needle fouling (although this depends on the use environment), and it is possible to maintain stable static elimination performance over the long term without frequent cleaning.
Also, there is almost no wear of the emitter needle due to HDC-AC's distinctive high-voltage generation technology, and thus periodic replacement is also unnecessary.

Extremely low ozone production
The corona discharge of an ionizer produces positive (+) and negative (-) ions, as well as ozone. If a state with high ozone concentration continues, there is a risk that the object for static elimination will oxidize (deteriorate). Ionizers equipped with HDC-AC produce extremely small amounts of ozone, and thus are unaffected by the above sort of problem.
